Over 30 hours were spent underwater shooting for this film. Say what you will, but the imagery and complexity of some of these scenes puts 20,000 Leagues up there on my list.

I'll say what I will, Kirk Douglas is one of my favorite actors because of this movie. I find him very underrated as a classic actor.
couldn't agree more. i remember how captivated i was watching this with my dad when i was a kid. the scene with the giant squid was absolutely terrifying.
